I'm kind of inclined to think it's part of the entire "investigation". Dress poorly, and you will be prejudged. But that's true of anyone at any size. I reckon it's because a commitment to cutting back on foods, both in what we eat and our portion sizes is somehow seen as a type of deprivation.

Take a look at our forefathers who were strong and robust. They never had all the fancy named fast foods and advertising to contend with. There was no quick fix for immediate food gratification. Yet they were stronger and healthier than modern day society. Simple go back to basics and cut out snack foods packaged in little plastic bags.

The fact that we have to work hard to maintain a healthy body through nutritious diet and regular exercise goes against our instant gratification mindset. I have come to the conclusion that with such a huge market for weight loss needs has also come the sharks. They capitalize on the instant gratification mentality of the western mind and say you can lose fat fast without calorie restriction, without exercise, without hunger.
